He specialises in a number of invasive and interventional cardiac procedures including coronary angioplasty and is also specialist in complex cardiac device implantation including cardiac defibrillators and biventricular pace makers. Additonally, he is expert in the treatment of cardiac diseases such as coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease and heart failure.
After completing his initial medical degree with a high distinction award in Iraq in 1989, Dr Al-Obaidi relocated to the UK to undertake further training. He trained at a number of London hospitals including London Charing Cross Hospital before being awarded a doctorate degree from the University of London in 2000. Dr Al-Obaidi completed his specialist training in cardiology in 2006. He has a wealth of experience in interventional cardiology and cardiac device implantation surgery, particularly percutaneous coronary interventions, including IVUS, OCT and pressure-wire catheter assessments, permanent pacemaker implantations and transoesophageal and transthoracic echocardiography, having completed thousands of these procedures.
Dr Al-Obaidi is a fellow of both the Royal College of Physicians and the European Society of Cardiology. He is also a member of the British Cardiovascular Intervention Society (BCIS) and the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions (EAPCI). Start nowThe human heart is a marvel of biological engineering, with its intricate electrical conduction system responsible for maintaining a steady heartbeat. However, just like any other electrical system, the heart's own wiring can encounter problems over time, leading to slow or irregular heart rhythms. In such cases, a medical marvel known as a pacemaker comes to the rescue, offering a way to overcome these "wiring" faults and restore the heart's rhythm. In his latest online article, Dr Mohamed Al- Obaidi explores the importance of pacemakers in addressing heart rhythm issues and sheds light on the procedure involved in implanting these life-saving devices.
Coronary angiogram is a crucial procedure which provides important insights into heart blood supply. It's a key tool used to assess heart health and to make diagnosis of various heart conditions, ensuring effective treatment. We hear more on coronary angiogram in this informative guide from renowned consultant cardiologist Dr Mohamed Al-Obaidi, who sheds light on how the procedure is performed.
In his latest online article, Mr Mohamed Al-Obaidi gives us his insights into pacemaker. The human heart, a marvel of natural engineering, relies on an intricate electrical conduction system to maintain its rhythm and functionality. This system includes a natural pacemaker and a network of "wiring" that enables synchronised heartbeats. However, like any complex electrical system, problems can arise over time, leading to a range of cardiac issues. In such cases, the installation of a pacemaker becomes a crucial intervention to address these "wiring" faults and restore the heart's proper rhythm and function.
In the realm of cardiovascular health, Electrocardiograms (ECGs) serve as invaluable tool in the assessment of your heart health. The 12-lead resting ECG, a painless procedure, intricately maps the heart's rhythm from 12 different electrical angles or “vectors”, offering a snapshot of its current condition. In his latest online article, Dr Mohamed Al-Obaidi describes some nuances of this quick procedure and explores other cardiac monitoring techniques that provide a comprehensive understanding of heart health.
Heart health is paramount to overall well-being, and adopting a holistic approach can significantly enhance cardiovascular function. This encompasses not only physical health but also mental and emotional well-being, creating a comprehensive strategy for a healthy heart. We speak to leading consultant cardiologist Dr Mohamed Al-Obaidi, who explains the key components to maintaining heart health.
Syncope, also known as fainting, can sometimes signal a serious heart condition requiring thorough evaluation and appropriate management. Here, Dr Mohamed Al-Obaidi, renowned consultant cardiologist, explains what syncope is, how it is assessed, and when more advanced cardiac treatments are needed.
